Privacy policy

Your Can Dex is yours. Here's exactly what BUZZD collects, why, who helps us run it, and how to make us forget you.

Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE] · Last updated [LAST UPDATED]

The short version

  • We collect what it takes to run your Can Dex, your packs and your Binder: your account, your logs, the barcodes you scan and anything you choose to add.
  • The camera reads barcodes live. We only keep a photo when you take one, for example of a can we don't know yet.
  • Location is optional, coarse and private unless you choose to share it. We never ask for it automatically.
  • Apple handles payments. We never see your card details.
  • We don't sell your data, and BUZZD has no ads.
  • You can delete your account in the app at any time.

Who we are

BUZZD is run by [LEGAL ENTITY], [REGISTERED ADDRESS] ("BUZZD", "we", "us"). We're the controller of the personal data described here. Questions go to [PRIVACY EMAIL].

This policy covers the BUZZD iPhone app and this website.

What we collect

When you create an account

Your email address, the display name you choose and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the identifier they give us. If you use Hide My Email with Apple, we only see the relay address. Your password is handled by our sign-in provider and stored only in hashed form.

When you use BUZZD

  • Your collection: the cans you log, your ratings, taste tags and notes, your Can Dex, your BZ history, your packs and the cards in your Binder.
  • Barcodes: the barcode number of each can you scan, so we can match it to the catalogue.
  • Photos you take: if you scan a can we don't know yet, you add a photo and a few details so we can review it and add it to the catalogue. We don't keep the live camera feed.
  • Where you found a can (optional): only if you add it. We store it as a coarse area, not your exact position.
  • What you share: when you share a pull or a find, we create a public link showing only what you chose to share.

When you buy Collector Pass

Apple processes the payment. We receive your subscription status and transaction identifiers so we can unlock what you paid for. We never receive your card or bank details.

Automatically

Device model, iOS version, app version, language and region settings, crash and error reports, and in-app events such as "opened a pack" so we can see what works and fix what doesn't. If you arrive through a BUZZD link or campaign, we may record which one brought you.

What we don't collect

Health data, caffeine intake, your contacts or your precise location. BUZZD is a collection app, not a health tracker.

We also share data when the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or as part of a sale or reorganisation of BUZZD, in which case this policy keeps applying to your data.

Other collectors only see what you choose to share. Your Can Dex and where you found your cans stay private unless you share them.

Where it's stored

Your data is stored in [HOSTING REGION]. Some providers process it in other countries, including the United States. Where we transfer personal data out of the UK, the EU or another country with transfer rules, we rely on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses, or equivalent safeguards.

How long we keep it

DataHow long
Account, collection, cards and BZ historyUntil you delete your account
Photos you takeUntil you remove them or delete your account. Photos approved into the catalogue may stay, without your name attached.
Crash reports and analytics events[RETENTION PERIOD]
Purchase recordsAs long as tax and consumer law requires
BackupsRemoved within [BACKUP WINDOW] of deletion

When you delete your account, we permanently delete your Can Dex, logs, cards and profile. We keep a tiny record so rewards can't be replayed: [describe exactly what is kept]. Got a Collector Pass? Cancel it with Apple too, because deleting your account doesn't stop billing.

Your choices and rights

In the app

  • Edit your display name and the details on any log.
  • Leave out, or remove, where you found a can.
  • Remove photos you've taken.
  • Delete your account from [Profile › Settings › Delete account].
  • Switch off camera access in iOS Settings. You'll need it to log a can, but nothing else breaks.

Wherever you live

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it or to delete it by emailing [PRIVACY EMAIL]. We'll reply within one month, or sooner if your local law says so, and we won't treat you differently for asking.

UK and EU

You also have the right to restrict or object to our processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can complain to your local data protection authority, such as the ICO in the UK.

Australia and New Zealand

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles and the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. If you're not happy with how we handle a complaint, you can contact the OAIC in Australia or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand.

Canada

We handle personal information in line with PIPEDA. You can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

United States

Depending on your state, including California, you have the right to know what we collect, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising. We don't sell personal information. [Confirm attribution setup against "sharing" rules]

18 and over only

BUZZD is for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we'll delete the account.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest with our storage provider, and access is limited to people who need it to run BUZZD. No system is perfectly secure, so if something goes wrong we'll tell you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

This website

This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking. Its fonts are served from our own site, so visiting it doesn't send your data to a font provider. Our host keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, for [LOG RETENTION] to keep the site running and secure.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top always shows the latest version.

Questions, requests or complaints: [PRIVACY EMAIL], or write to [LEGAL ENTITY], [REGISTERED ADDRESS].
